When you’re searching for the right nanny for your family, it’s completely understandable to want options. You’re trusting someone with your children, your home, and a very important part of your everyday life. Of course you want to feel confident that you’ve explored every possibility before making a decision.
But here’s something we’ve learned as professional nannies turned nanny agency owners: finding the right nanny isn’t about how many profiles you see. It’s about finding the person who truly fits your family.
And sometimes, that person is in the very first few profiles you receive.
What Happens Behind the Scenes?
One thing families don’t always see is how much work goes into selecting the candidates we send over.
Let’s say we’re working on a nanny placement for a family in Los Angeles. During one week, we might speak with 10 different nannies about the position. We’re learning about their experience, childcare philosophy, personality, communication style, availability, and what they’re looking for in their next family.
We’re also thinking about the family on the other side of the search. What kind of person would fit naturally into their household? What matters most to the parents? What personality would complement their children? What did we learn during our conversations with the family that might not be obvious on a resume?
After all of that, we might send just one or two profiles.
Not because we haven’t been working hard to find more options, but because those are the candidates we genuinely believe are worth the family’s time and consideration.
We could send more profiles simply to make the list longer, but that isn't our goal. We would rather introduce you to two thoughtful, carefully selected candidates than overwhelm you with 15 profiles that may not be the right fit.
The Resume Is Important, but It Isn't Everything
When hiring a nanny, qualifications, childcare experience, references, and background checks all matter. But there’s another piece of the puzzle that can be much harder to capture on paper: the connection between a nanny and your family.
A wonderful nanny for one household might not be the right nanny for another, even if both families are looking for someone with the same number of years of experience.
Maybe one family needs someone calm and patient who can support a shy toddler as they grow more comfortable with new people. Another might need an energetic nanny who loves outdoor adventures, creative activities, and keeping up with two busy little ones.
Both families deserve someone wonderful, but their ideal candidates may look very different.
That’s why our approach to professional nanny placement goes beyond matching resumes to job descriptions. We want to understand your household, your parenting preferences, your children's personalities, and the little details that make your family yours.
Whether we’re helping a family in Atherton, Hillsborough, Palo Alto, or Bel Air find a full-time nanny, our goal is the same: to find someone who feels right for that particular family, not simply someone who checks every box on paper.
Don't Let the Search for More Options Make You Overlook a Great One
Here’s where we want to offer a little advice, especially to families who feel they need to review a certain number of nanny profiles before moving forward.
We completely understand the desire to keep looking. When you're making such an important decision, it can feel reassuring to know you've seen as many candidates as possible.
But sometimes, in the search for more options, a family can unintentionally put a promising candidate on hold simply because they haven't seen enough profiles yet.
Imagine receiving a nanny profile that checks nearly every box. Her experience aligns with your needs, her childcare philosophy sounds like a wonderful fit, and you can genuinely picture her becoming part of your household. You feel excited about the possibility, but decide to wait because you'd really like to see another five or ten candidates first.
In the meantime, that nanny may be interviewing with other families and could accept another position.
Suddenly, the person who seemed like such a promising match is no longer available, and you're starting over.
Of course, this won't happen every time, and we would never encourage a family to rush into a decision. But it is something worth keeping in mind during your nanny search.
If you genuinely love a candidate, it’s okay to explore that connection while remaining open to other possibilities. You don't have to stop your search immediately, and you certainly don't have to commit before you're ready. Sometimes, simply being willing to take the next step with a promising nanny can make all the difference.
Trust Your Instincts. We Certainly Do.
We want to make one thing very clear: we never want a family to settle.
If we send you a profile and something doesn't feel right, that's okay. If you meet a candidate and realize the connection isn't there, that's okay, too. You know your children and your household, and your comfort matters.
Please tell us what you're thinking, what you liked, what didn't quite click, and what you'd love to see in the next candidate. That feedback helps us refine our search and better understand what the right match looks like for you.
And if the first few candidates aren't the ones? We keep going.
At Little Sprouts & Co., we will continue working with your family and sending thoughtfully selected profiles until you feel genuinely happy and confident about your nanny choice. Sometimes the right person appears in the first one to three profiles. Other times, it takes more conversations, more searching, and a little more patience.
There is no magic number of profiles that guarantees a successful placement.
What matters is that we're listening, learning, and continuing to look for the person who fits your family best.
A More Personal Approach to Finding Your Nanny
For busy families in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, finding a professional nanny can already feel like another full-time job. Between work, parenting, household responsibilities, and everything else on your plate, sorting through endless applications can quickly become overwhelming.
That's one of the reasons we built Little Sprouts & Co. the way we did.
As a boutique nanny agency founded by former professional nannies, we know that a successful placement is about much more than filling an open position. It's about building a relationship that works for the parents, the children, and the nanny.
Whether you're searching for a full-time nanny in San Francisco, a part-time nanny in Palo Alto, a career nanny in Beverly Hills, or in-home childcare in Brentwood, Santa Monica, or Manhattan Beach, we want you to feel supported throughout the process.
We take the time to understand what you're looking for, thoughtfully select candidates, and help you navigate the steps toward finding the right person. We aren't here to send you a stack of resumes and wish you luck. We're here to help make the process more personal, manageable, and meaningful.
At the end of the day, we measure a successful search by how confident and happy your family feels with the person you choose, not by how many profiles we can send.
So keep asking questions. Trust your instincts. Tell us what you need. And if a candidate feels promising, don't be afraid to explore that possibility, even if you've only seen a handful of profiles.
Your perfect nanny might be the tenth person you meet. She might be the third. Or she might be the very first person who makes you think, Wait a minute… she could be the one.
We're here to help you find out.
Because when it comes to your family, we'd always rather focus on finding the right fit than simply finding more options.
